Melasma
Although melasma is a harmless condition, it can be frustrating and cause self-consciousness for those who have it.
Melasma is a common condition that affects many people, especially women.
This disorder causes brown or gray patches to appear on the face, typically on the cheeks, forehead, chin, and upper lip. The condition occurs when the melanocytes, which are the cells responsible for producing melanin, begin to produce too much pigment, leading to the formation of dark spots on the skin.
Melasma is often triggered by hormonal changes, such as pregnancy, birth control pills, hormone replacement therapy, and sun exposure.
